Scandinavian Art Scene
All art is simply a visual language that transcends literacy and speaks directly to the heart’s eye.
Most Scandinavian painters with an international reputation were active in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Among the most renowned artists from this period are Anders Zorn, Edward Munch, Carl Larsson, Bruno Liljefors, Bruno Mathsson, and Isaac Grunewald. Many of their works can be found in Swedish art museums and serious collectors, and some for sale with art galleries, dealers and auction houses. The new generations, represented by artists are bringing the legacy forward into today’s international art scene.
Silver, canvas, glass, peppier maché, photography, edition prints, jewelry, furniture, textiles or odds and ends, the art world in Scandinavia is fascinating and will inspire everybody.
There are about one hundred museums and more than 200 galleries in Stockholm, something for every kind of cultural taste, so artistic boredom is not an option. Stockholm’s museum & gallery world has something for everyone, even those who find the concept of “art” a complete snore.
A characteristic feature of the Swedish arts scene is the large number of art associations (about 1800), most of them are formed by art-loving employees at companies or institutions. The members of such an association may visit art galleries or museums together and the associations sometimes acquire works of art directly from the artist. This way “seed money” is in fused in the art society, boosting the creativity by making it possible for new and coming as well as establish artists to find their audience.

Scandinavia is filled with a magnificent visual beauty and amazing natural surroundings. The gorgeous mountains, rivers, lakes, along with a clean sky, and the fresh air of this northern European country are for sure worth a visit. Stockholm is built across 14 islands and is often called the Venice of the North. With more foreign visitors than any other city in Scandinavia, it is also considered to be the Capital of Scandinavia, rich in art, culture, sceneries and entertainment.
Stockholm is situated at the point where the vast Lake Mälaren flows into the Baltic Sea and was built on this strategic spot in the mid 13thcentury, enabling the founder to tax merchant vessels going in and out of the lake. As water covers one third of the city area, the maritime life is an important aspect of the city. There are plenty of bridges, marinas and locks. The water is so clean that you can drink it and catch salmon in the middle of the city. The climate is very much conditioned by the sea winds, so even the warmest summer day will be contingent upon the sea breeze finding its way into the city streets. The average temperature in Stockholm is around -2 C (28 F) in January and about 18 C (64 F) in July.
